VW is a european car but we have them here in US, gas millage is same here as Europe. Same with Audi, Volvo and many others. The miles per gallon is a function of the size of the engine. A small engine here will have better millage than a big engine here. The same small engine in Europe will get better millage than the same big engine in Europe.

Miles per gallon (Imperial) in UK will depend on size of engine and if he travel is in a urban traffic jam or on a more open road. In a traffic jam you can get as little as 10-15, On open roads 30-50 and a bit of both usually refereed to as combination 25-38.
It also depends on how you drive are you heavy footed.( Full on accelerator or full on break.) You will use more gas There are many cars in the sub compact variety that will get better results with careful driving. Diesel cars get more miles per gallon.
Note most of Europe it is not Miles per gallon its Liters
