Nes Fan asked:

Im wondering if a society could be run by a series of tracks like a railway system or a trolley system like they have in San Francisco would it be viable? Is there any research into the complete removal of automobiles?

Yes for the first two questions and not sure for the last one.

Sure, the Amish society has never used automobiles. (In Pennsylvania, USA)

Many small villages and towns in developing nations have few or no automobiles. They rely on bicycles, buses, trains, and animals.

Totally. but would city transportation be dependable? I haven’t came across anything about it but its a good question.

  5. Mike G Says:

    It’s possible, but not likely.

yes, look at China many years ago. Everyone not a member of their government had to walk or ride bicycles. Now they are eating up all the oil left in the world. It is just great to know that possibly in 25 years NOBODY will ever be able to hear what a HEMI sounds like because Wan Yi Lin used up all our natural resources to get to work driving his crappy Chinese built rice burner!

Sure it could, without a doubt. All societies started without automobiles. But, to answer your second question, the word automobile itself is a self-propelled vehicle, so public transportation would still qualify as automobiles. But if you think about it, if all transportation was public there would be no independence in mobility…so this will not happen in America. And if it did, America would no longer be America.
