Car-Talk? I need a translator?

car talk
B.T. asked:

I’m looking to buy my first car, and I’m completly lost. There’s a local newspaper type of thing that my city has and it sells cars for a good deal, or they try to cheat you out of your money.

So, what’s good for gas mileage? What range of numbers?

And there’s a lot of slang that I don’t understand that google can’t help me with, like CC, PS, PW, PDL? V6, AT?

Thank You!

What does it mean when it says 128k mi?

And is there anything important I should know?

  1. Jack B Says:

    CC-Cruise Control
    PS-Power Steering
    PDL-Power Door Locks
    PW-Power Windows
    V6-6 Cylinder engine
    AT-Automatic transmission

    128k mi means that the car’s got 128,000 miles on the odometer.

  2. asp2write Says:

    CC is like horsepower, usually when talking about bikes, or cruise control, PS power Steering, PW power windows, PDL power door locks, V6, six cylinder, ok on gas, AT automatic transmission.

  3. so-cal boi Says:

    CC-cruise control
    PS-power steering
    PW-power windows
    PDL-power door locks
    V6- 6 cylinder engine
    AT-automatic transmission

    Anything that gets over 25, maybe even 20, miles per gallon (highway) is good gas mileage.

  4. Scribepalladin Says:

    What represents good gas mileage depends on what sort of vehicles you are looking at. For SUVs, 16 city, 24 highway is about the norm, while 21/30 would be good for an economy car.

    CC = cruise control
    PS = power steering
    PW = power windows
    PDL = power door locks
    V6 is a 6-cylinder engine with two banks of three cylinders. From the front, thje engine block appeats to have a V-shape
    AT = automatic transmission
